The Township of Brick recently joined the Townships of Ocean and Berkeley and Jersey Shore Nuclear Watch in calling for the immediate closure and decommissioning of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. In the event of a terrorist attack or any unforeseen accident, the half million plus residents of Ocean County and surrounding areas would placed in grave danger. I respectfully urge you to join us in our efforts to remove this threat from our County by passing the attached resolution.
The operators of Oyster Creek will most likely submit an application for the extension of their operating license to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in April. By joining together to tell the NRC that we are opposed to the continuing operation of this plant, we will have a better chance at bringing our efforts to fruition. Now is the time to lead and make your voice heard.
Again, I respectfully urge you to join us in our efforts to close the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and I look forward to working with you in the future to do what is best for Ocean County.
