Rules for Garbage & Bulk Pick-Up
Township rules for disposing of trash the and requesting special pick-ups.

Co-mingled Products

Co-mingled products are glass bottles, plastic bottles (milk, soda, detergent and shampoo), tin & aluminum cans, and aerosol cans. These may all be placed in the same container.

Aerosol cans must be empty and the caps removed. The following are not acceptable: butter and salad tubs, automotive product containers such as oil, anti-freeze or gas treatments, ceramic dishes, window glass, and light bulbs.

  • Sofabeds need to have the metal frame and mattress removed.  
  • Sliding glass doors must have the glass removed. 
  •  Rugs - Cut in 4 foot sections, rolled and tied and not weigh more than 50 lbs 
  • Grass Clippings are recommended to be cut and left, returning them as natural fertilizer for the lawn, but they may be put in a plastic bag in your garbage can for regular collection. 
  • Construction material - The Township no longer picks up construction material. Call Ocean County Landfill at 323-8528 for disposal information.
  •  
    Items not accepted for drop off or Bulk pick up:
    •  Construction material-roofing shingles, sheet-  rock, siding, plywood, 2x4's, etc.
    • Remodeling material-tile, trim, doors & windows, decking, etc.
    • Wooden Sheds
 Metal & Appliance Recycling*
Call 262-1085 to arrange for pick-up.
 
  • Refrigerators must have the doors and Freon removed.
  •  Air Conditioners must have Freon removed.
  •  Washing Machines and Dryers must have doors removed. 
  •  Lawn Mowers must have oil and gas drained. 
  • Propane Tanks must have valves removed. 
  • Swing Sets must be dismantled and any concrete removed. 
  •  Metal Sheds must be dismantled and bundled neatly in small piles.

 *ALL METAL ITEMS MUST HAVE WOOD & CONCRETE REMOVED

  Household Hazardous Materials

Items such as paint, solvents, pool chemicals, and pesticides should be held until the County Household Hazardous Materials collection days (usually Spring & Fall). DO NOT PUT THESE ITEMS IN WITH YOUR REGULAR GARBAGE OR BRING THEM TO RIDGE ROAD RECYCLING CENTER. For information on the collection schedule, call 367-0802.

 Special Items

Tree Limbs & Brush - Tie in lengths less than four feet and put in bundles less than 50 lbs in weight. Call Public Works for pick-up or take to Ridge Road Recycling Center.

Leaves - Call 732-262-1044

Batteries - Automotive and household batteries may be brought to Ridge Road Recycling Center or the Ocean County Recycling Center on New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood.

Tires - Should be left at business where you bought them. Tires, off the rim, can also be brought to County Recycling Center on New Hampshire Ave, Lakewood, for a per tire fee. Call 367-0802 for more information.

Paint Cans - Empty cans with lids removed may be brought to Ridge Road Recycling Center. Cans containing paint can be taken to the County Recycling Center on Wednesdays and Saturdays or be held until the County Household Hazardous Materials collection days. Call before going. Motor Oil should be taken to the County Recycling Center or any service station displaying a "Used Oil Recycling" sign.

Telephone Books are collected separately during the summer months. Watch local newspapers or call Public Works for details.

Asbestos Materials must be taken care of by the homeowner abatement companies listed in the yellow pages.
