EAST GYMNASIUM & CAFETERIAS 1 & 2
In honor of Earth Day 2011, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Renewable Energy (MACRE), the Brick Chamber of Commerce, the Brick Public School District, the Brick Township Municipal Utility Authority, the Brick Township Environmental Commission, Brick Township Recreation Department, and the Brick Tourist Development Commission have partnered to host the 1st Annual Brick Township Green Fair on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Green Fair will be held at the Brick Township High School on Chambers Bridge Road, Brick, New Jersey.
The Green Fair will be a community-wide event designed to educate, enlighten, and encourage people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds to adopt more sustainable, environmentally-and-socially responsible lifestyles. The Green Fair seeks also to foster stewardship amongst local organizations, business, and schools with respect to adopting the best practices necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of our community. Attendees of the Green Fair should be able to better visualize how their individual efforts can make a huge difference in our community and our world. They should also leave with a deeper understanding of what it means to be "green" or live sustainably, and what a sustainable community could look like.
Brick Recreation Department will also be hosting their annual Brick Youth Services Day Celebration outdoors at the high school on the same day in conjunction with the Green Fair.
More than 50 exhibitors, vendors, and crafters will be on-site, plus activities for all ages, as well as expert presenters on a variety of “green” topics, will make this a fun-filled and educational day for Brick Township. And don’t forget to try your luck at winning some great eco-raffle prizes!
Students from the Veterans Memorial Middle School and both Brick Township High Schools participated in contests to develop the Green Fair logo and slogan. The winning logo design, created by Jessica Sievers of Veterans Memorial Middle School, and the winning slogan “Brick Township: A Shore Place to Go Green” by Michael Zaccarine of BTHS, will be featured on the event program and poster.
Presentations will include:
11: 30 am - Dr. Maurie Cohen, New Jersey Institute of Technology, “From Sustainable Development to Sustainable Well-Being”;
1:00 pm - Robert Karl, Brick Township MUA will present on “Water Resources and Sustainability” and
2:00 pm - Rich Mohr, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County, “Sustainable Lawn and Garden Practices”;
Plus a children’s story time and the short film, “The Story of Stuff” will also be available for viewing throughout the day.
