Statement from Brick Township Mayor Regarding Snow Removal Efforts
“We are in the final phase of plowing a path on every township street and expect to have reached every street by this evening. We had made 80% of the township’s nearly 1,700 streets accessible by 10 pm last evening, less than two days after the storm ended.
Currently, we have 73 pieces of equipment working in the community making streets accessible. We will have an additional 17 pieces of equipment later this afternoon to assist with the effort. We worked throughout the storm to contact vendors and contractors for any available pieces of equipment.
Once every street has been opened, we will enter the next phase of our snow removal effort.
Crews have been working around the clock since 3:30pm Sunday to remove snow. They will continue to work around the clock until all roads are accessible.
Many residents are understandably frustrated by the amount of time this effort has taken.I am frustrated as are the employees who have been working around the clock since Sunday afternoon. However, this was a storm of historic proportions with nearly three feet of snow and winds that were the equivalent of a Category 2 Hurricane. The storm posed unique challenges to our crews, our resources and ultimately to our residents.
Residents who have concerns about medical emergencies or do not have access to medicine or other supplies should call the Township at 732-262-1050.Residents in adult communities can call their respective homeowner associations for additional assistance.
While I am frustrated with the time it has taken and disappointed with certain aspects of our efforts, I am encouraged by the response of many citizens who stepped up and helped their neighbors during the storm.Brick Township’s residents are hard-working, resilient people and we are going to get through this massive snow removal effort – which is the largest in our community’s history – together.
I want residents to be assured that we are going to have a comprehensive review and evaluation of our preparation and handling of this blizzard to determine where we could improve our provision of this service to residents.”
