Brick, NJ – Earlier this week, Mayor Stephen Acropolis signed the deed for Traders Cove with covenants and restrictions required by the Green Acres Program. The restricted deed will ensure that the Trader’s Cove site will be preserved for recreational use forever.
“This is a significant milestone,” said Mayor Acropolis. “This deed ensures that our children, our grandchildren and all future generations of BrickTownship residents will always have a place to enjoy on the BarnegatBay. It was my honor to sign the deed on their behalf.”
By signing the deed, the Township will receive $3,704,175 in Green Acres funding for reimbursement of the purchase of the site. Mayor Acropolis expects to receive the funds within two months.
The Township purchased the Trader’s Cove site in 2005 to protect the site from the development of waterfront condominiums. The Township partnered with the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders to purchase the site.
The County plans to build a park on their portion of the property to supplement the Mantoloking Bridge Fishing Pier. The park is expected to be completed later this year.
“The Trader’s Cove site holds so much potential for the people of BrickTownship,” said Council President Joseph Sangiovanni. “We are fortunate that the Township acted and saved the site from residential development. The Council is looking forward to working with the Mayor to make Trader’s Cove a jewel for BrickTownship’s residents.”
The Township has applied for a $600,000 grant to the Green Acres Development Program to develop a park at the marina site. Plans for the park include a boundless playground, boardwalk, benches, parking, and the opportunity for fishing and crabbing on the Township site in addition to the existing marina.
AssistantTownship Planner, Tara Paxton said, “With Green Acres Participation on this project, the Township will ultimately be able to transform this underutilized marina into one of the best recreational destination locations on the JerseyShore.”
