TOWNSHIP RECIEVES PROPOSALS FOR REDEVELOPMENT OF FOODTOWN Added ›08/29/2008 1:24:02 PM

Brick, NJ – Brick Township received four (4) proposals for the redevelopment of the FoodTown property.

“It has been over five years since the Foodtown was taken off the tax rolls by the previous administration,” said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis.  “Getting the property back on the tax rolls and doing so in a way that is in the best interest of our community has been a priority of this administration and every day brings us closer to accomplishing our goal.”

Brick Township bought the property in 2003 for $6.5 million.  The property consists of a commercial building that has fallen into serious disrepair.

The current Township Council designated the property as an area in need of redevelopment.  By doing so, the Township was able to have a greater say in the future of the site.

“The redevelopment process is more time consuming than simply selling the property to the highest bidder.  However, this process has given us a greater say in what will be built there.  This was important to us as the property is in an environmentally sensitive area and an area that has frequent traffic congestion,” said Mayor Acropolis.  “We will not sacrifice the best interests of our residents and taxpayers for a speedy sale.”

A public presentation of the proposals will take place at the Tuesday, September 9, 2008 Council Meeting.  After that, the administration and Council will thoroughly review the proposals and determine which one presents the best option for Brick Township’s taxpayers.
