Brick, NJ – The fireworks that were scheduled for the July 3 SummerFest Concert will be part of an extended fireworks display during the SummerFest 2008 Finale on August 28.The fireworks were not discharged after fire marshals and the Township safety inspector determined that the on-shore wind created a potentially hazardous situation on Thursday evening.
“I know that people are upset that the fireworks were not set off, however, we will not take any chances when it comes to people’s safety,” said Mayor Acropolis.“The fire marshals make the call about whether or not the fireworks will go on.They were adamant that the fireworks could not be set off if there was on-shore wind, which there was.”
The fire marshals and Township safety inspector made the final determination as the SummerFest Concert got underway on July 3, approximately two hours before the fireworks were set to begin. An announcement was made from the stage after the opening band’s set.
As the fireworks are discharged from the beach area of WindwardBeachPark, fire marshals insist that there is no steady on-shore wind prior to setting up the fireworks.Once the fireworks are set up, they must be discharged.
The fireworks will be part of a special extended fireworks display at the SummerFest 2008 Finale on August 28 featuring Country artists Nikki Britt and James Otto.Birdsall Services Group – Engineers & Consultants are the sponsors of the postponed fireworks.
