Michael Thulen’s educational credentials include a Degree in Applied Science and Building Construction, a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration and an ongoing effort towards receiving an additional Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. He holds New Jersey issued specialty licenses in Water Distribution, Water Treatment and as a Construction Official, a Sub-code Official and a Building Inspector. He also holds a Master Captain’s License. These unique skills and qualifications will allow Brick Township to take advantage the very special contributions that he can make to the town council.

Michael is a Construction Manager and Estimator Building Code Specialist for Kay Construction in Mt. Laurel. His responsibilities include building budgets for new projects, networking with contractors and the complicated task of specification writing and design management for projects throughout New Jersey.

In Brick Township, he has served as the Brick Township Chief Engineering Inspector at the BTMUA and presently serves on the Land Use and Finance committees.

Michael Thulen has a track record of giving back to our community. He is an Eagle Scout, who has also served as a Coach for the Brick Recreation soccer team and national baseball team, and as a member of the Brick Township PTO.

He is divorced and has two sons, one daughter, and one daughter-in-law. 

He moved to Brick in 1984 and lives in the Cedarwood Park section of town.

WORK HISTORY

Supervise the construction of commercial properties from new work to renovation, contract size from $2million up to $12 million. My current jobsite Volkswagen car dealership 16 thousand square feet. The last jobsite was a 65 thousand square foot Mercedes Benz 2 story car dealership. Also a 3 million square foot total renovation with the re-glaze of the entire 7 story building with two new entrances. Demolition of entire interior, fit out of regional offices for Brandywine Realty and AON Insurance, two restaurants and a 2 story Health Club.

2002 to 2005 Project Manager, American Properties Realty Inc., Iselin, NJ

While working for the company I was in charge of simultaneous supervision and management of two housing developments and a commercial site. Duties include new construction management, contract negotiations, and home owner warranty. I was also in charge of the full approval process management for the first Smart Growth Project in New Jersey.
